Year 7 Challenger Series

This year’s Challenger Series has begun for our Year 7 students. This year our students have been participating in the following activities:

A session at the Millennium Institute focused around water and surf survival. This programme was developed with the support of Drowning Prevention Auckland, Water Safety NZ and Coastguard NZ given the current New Zealand drowning statistics.
Barefoot in the Bush – a full days outing at Sky School at Sanders Reserve run by Harry Scott. While out at Sky School the students are involved in outdoor cooking, bush survival and bushcraft.

BigFoot Adventures – a full day of activities based at Northcross, students will take part in mountain biking, rockwall climbing, adventure based games and archery.
Awataha Marae – the students will spend a day at the marae where they will experience a powhiri and be involved in some games and activities. Maraea Rameka is currently working with the Year 7 classes as they learn waiata, karanga and whaikorero.

Auckland Museum – teams will be participating in two educational programmes that support the local histories unit that they are doing in class.
Kite-making – Mark Jensen is taking all the classes through for a session on traditional kite making

Many thanks to all our parent helpers who have assisted with activities and trips out of school. These experiences for our students would not be possible without the spectacular support we receive from our whanau.
