As part of the current project based learning on the impact of plastics on the Hauraki Gulf, the Puriri team visited Tiritiri Matangi over two days. Students were tasked with investigating the statement – “The Hauraki Gulf – Our Pristine Playground or Not?”. Despite the weather being cold and wet it was a fantastic opportunity for our students to observe how an environment can thrive without the threat of pests and plastic! Students were surprised not to see any evidence of rubbish on the island. Special attention was also paid to the lighthouse and it’s significance to Northcross.
