Recently, 14 girls competed in the Auckland Showquest Toi – World of Wearable Arts Competition. Over the last two terms, students have been working incredibly hard on designing and making their own costumes. This year’s categories’ were: Futuristic, Aotearoa and Excessive Accessories. The girls used a range of materials from bubble wrap, newspaper to recycled pool toys. Spending many hours both at school and at home, students persevered to bring their vision to life. Northcross received three special awards: Kathy Kim and Zara Harris were awarded ‘Best Garment Construction’, Zara Latimer, Micaella Pretorius and Manuela Atienza received ‘Best use of Inventive Materials’. The winner of the evening was Sophia Gilmour who received ‘Star of the Night’ with her Pukana costume. A huge congratulations to all the girls and their outstanding garments.
