Our Y8 Boys Football team continued the successful legacy of past teams when they went on to win the final at the Auckland Boys Football Tournament in July. The team had 2 wins and a draw in pool play and made it through to a semi final against St Kents. It was to prove a tough game with strong defense from the opposition. Despite a number of chances goals were in short supply and it wasn’t till the last few minutes that Koji Constantine fired a cracker of a shot into goal to see Northcross go 1 nil up and making it to the finals.
The team met Sacred Heart in the final who had held us to a draw in pool play. It was a hard fought game with both teams scoring goals in the first half. Northcross stepped it up in the second half, putting the opposition under immense pressure and having a high percentage of possession. It was a counter attack that created the winning goal with Marley Hunt making a great run to fire the ball across goal for Taine Wilson to volley powerfully into goal securing a 2-1 win. The team are deservedly proud of being 2022 Auckland Champions.
