NX Orienteerers Put Themselves on the Map

Three hardy students represented NX over the holidays in two Orienteering events. The first of which was the North Island Secondary Schools Championship. Sophie Herde came first in the Sprint and Championship Long Course. Callum Hill was placed first in the Boys Sprint and second in the Championship Long Course. Ryan Newth was fifth in the Sprint and first in the Standard Long Course. The three of them got together on the last day to compete in the Relay, where they came first. Altogether Northcross was placed Top School Year 7/8 Boys.

Directly after the North Island Orienteering Championship the National Championship was held in South Auckland. Sophie Herde became a triple National Champion in the Sprint and the Championship Long Course. Ryan Newth was placed 12th in the Sprint and 2nd in the Standard Long Course. Together with Callum Hill they won the Relay. Northcross was placed 2nd Overall School for the boys behind Havelock North. An awesome effort and perfect results!

At the Auckland Rogaine Championship in the Riverhead Forest four hardy NX orienteerers; Sophie Herde, Hope Williams, Callum Hill and Ryan Newth braved the muddy conditions to compete over a tough and challenging course. Rogaine is a timed, paired event. Both teams of two won their respective events, Year 7/8 Boys and Year 7/8 Girls . Can’t ask for better than that!
