Maths Extravaganza

In mid May we celebrated Maths!
Mathex Junior (Year 5 and 6): It all started with over 200 students from our contributing Primary Schools competing for the top of Junior Mathex. Mathex is a Maths problem solving competition where teams of 4 compete to answer 20 word problems. We were thrilled to have Browns Bay win the Mathex scoring 100% in 17 minutes winning the competition. Torbay placed second and Oteha Valley Third.

MATHEX – Northcross: After that we had our Northcross Competition, with 240 year 8’s and 224 year 7’s competing for top spot. The Year 7 winners were Nikau team with Room 55 placing 2nd and 3rd. For our Y8 students, Room 54 placed 1st, Room 21 placed 2nd and Rimu team placed 3rd. Outstanding results!

MATHEX – North Shore: Lastly, Northcross hosted the North Shore competition with schools from  across the shore including Northcote, Carmel, Murray’s Bay, Albany Junior and Kristin competing for top of the North Shore. For our year 7 teams, Northcross dominated the competition placing first, second and third – STUNNING!

For year 8, Murray’s Bay placed first and second, Pinehill third and Northcross 4th, 5th and 6th. We had multiple compliments on our student leaders who helped host the event – they really did make us proud.
