Recently the Year 7 and Year 8 NX Boys Football teams gained top places at their respective North Harbour Tournaments.
Our Y8 team showed an outstanding combination of attacking football, innovative team work and rock hard defense throughout the tournament. They went into the semi-finals having scored over 25 goals in pool play. The team battled hard in the semi-final against Orewa College and although the NX team were camped in the opposition box they were unlucky to score, hitting both the goal posts and crossbar a number of times. The game headed to penalties with the fulltime score at nil all. Our penalty takers were on target and our goalie, Reuben Gibbs, made a couple of crucial saves that put NX through to the final against Rosmini. It was a tight battle in the final and it was a great reflex goal by Taine Wilson that gave the NX team the 1 nil lead and the win on the fulltime whistle. Our Y8 boys deservedly North Harbour Champions for 2022!
The Y7 boys team dominated their pool games and quarter final match with fantastic attacking footy, making it into the semis against Birkdale. After going down by one in the semi-final the boys demonstrated real resilience and determination to win convincingly 3-1 and make it into the final against Northcote. Unfortunately Northcote scored a run away goal early in the final match and despite our NX team’s continued dominance of possession and gallant efforts on attack the match was to finish 1-0 to the opposition. Our Y7 team can be very proud of their efforts on the day, runners up and amazing sporting ambassadors for Northcross.
