Top Awards in Toi Wearable Arts Competition

Sluginker – Sophia Gilmour

At the end of Term 2, 20 Northcross students competed in the Toi Wearable Arts Competition.
Northcross entered 15 garments across the various categories: Inventive Materials, Garment Construction and Finish, Creative Impact and Storytelling.
Students have been spending both time at school and home working on their garments for the last two terms. Sophia Gilmour was awarded ‘Star of the Night’ with her
Sluginker garment, winning the Auckland competition. Northcross also won 4 other awards: The Unonelaton by Elsie Brown, Hine-kōrako by Zara Latimer and Te Tīmatanga by Ella Irving received ‘Impressive Storytelling’ and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them by Emma Turpin received Excellent Garment Construction. 

For the National Awards, Northcross did really well with Zara Latimer winning the Creative Photo Challenge. Cathy Wu winning the Bernina’s Choice Award and Sophia Gilmour was a National Finalist.
