Both our Year 7 and Year 8 Boys football teams gained top places at their respective North Harbour Tournaments early this term. The Y7 boys were unlucky not to make the finals after a hard fought battle in the semis with the game decided on penalties despite our Northcross team dominating play throughout the game. The boys demonstrated real resilience to rally strongly in their game for 3rd and 4th against Albany Junior winning the game 3 nil and taking out 3rd spot.
Our Y8 team showed a great combination of attacking football and rock hard defence throughout the tournament. They went into the semi finals having not conceded a goal and scoring over 25 goals in pool play. The team were just as clinical in their semi winning the game 4 nil. The final was a tight match against Belmont Intermediate until our Centre Mid, Damion Kim, made a great run through their defence and scoring a well earned goal in the bottom right corner. Our Y8 boys North Harbour Champions for 2021!
The Y8 Boys team recently went up against all the regional finalists at the Auckland Football Tournament. Once again they displayed their footy prowess, skill and above all amazing team work to make it to another final (they did not concede a goal in the whole tournament). The Final game against St Kents was intense, both teams creating good chances and battling it out in defence. It was a nil all finish with the winner decided on penalty shootout – 20 shots in total. Unfortunately Northcross lost in sudden death with the score at 9-8. The team although disappointed can be very proud of their football, their top attitude and an admirable 2nd place in Auckland.
