In Week 6 of Term 1, both our Girls & Boys Tag teams attended the NH Tag Zone Day held at Freyberg Park, Browns Bay. This year, ARL (Auckland Rugby League) were running the competition and both teams were looking to ‘tag’ a 1st Place!
The girls had a tough start, playing the eventual finalists, Ta Raki Paiwhenua, first up. Going down 1-3 meant getting to the Semis was going to be an uphill battle. However, the girls played hard and finished pool play with two good wins going into playoffs. A close 0-1 loss to MBIS, followed by a win over Northcote Int meant the girls finished in 7th place.
The boys, superbly coached by Tane Hart, finished pool play unbeaten, with wins over Orewa, Glenfield & Takapuna. That meant the boys played Whangaparaoa College in the Semi and after a very tight and intense struggle, progressed to the final. In that final, they faced Northcote. Both teams played a similar style and with similar systems and plays. It was the NX boys who were just a tad sharper in their execution, skill level & speed and these small areas of dominance ensured they came away with a 7-3 victory. A massively awesome performance form the lads and we must thank Tane Hart for his expert coaching of the boys. A wee bit of a shame we couldn’t attend Auckland Champs because of Camp, but that’s life sometimes. Great work by all those involved, including all our wonderful supporters!
