On the 13th June, we had our two dance troupes compete at the National Dance Challenge which took place at Westlake Girls. Our Hip hop group was created by an outside choreographer while our Contemporary dance crew were lead by two Y8 students. Both these routines were complex in their styles and technique, with the dancers meeting both before and during school time to learn these amazing dances!
The dancers displayed most if not all Northcross Dispositions, particularly self-motivation and engagement. The sheer determination and perseverance through learning these complicated routines was incredible to see and they brought all their energy into their final performance on the competition night. The hard work paid off as both groups scored high scores in their divisions:
1st – Contemporary (Soldier, choreographed by Luna Zhang Rm 50 and Elsie He Rm 49) scored a High Platinum Gold which is a very rare score to achieve!
2nd – Hip Hop (Can You Keep Up) scored a High Gold in their division
To top it all off, Northcross Intermediate scored the ‘Intermediate Dance Team of the Year’ trophy!
Overall it was a very successful night, and we cannot wait to see what these dancers achieve next with the upcoming AIMS games competition and many more performances!
