We were informed a few weeks a go that Northcross had two winners in the Lest We Forget Auckland War Memorial Museum Poetry Competition this year.
Grace Hollins Room 50 (12-17 year category)
Milly Song Room 35 (11 and under category)
The theme for the poetry writng was ‘Pathways Forward’ and as this is the last year this competition will be running it is extra special to have had this recognition. Grace and Milly were also exceptional represenatives of Northcross when they delivered their poetry readings on ANZAC day in the Hall of Memories at the Auckland museum.

ANZAC Commemoration – Browns Bay
Marching in this year’s ANZAC Parade in Browns Bay felt meaningful from the moment we lined up in the cool morning air. As we walked through the streets, we noticed how quiet everything was, even though there were so many people. People stood with poppies, and seeing veterans just ahead of us made the whole experience feel important. It felt like everyone was there for the same reason — to remember and show respect to those who sacrificed their lives for us.
While we were walking, we felt proud to represent our school, but also thoughtful, thinking about what ANZAC Day really means. The ceremony at the cenotaph stood out the most, especially the laying of the wreaths and the silence after the Last Post. Being there in person made it feel more real than just learning about it in class, and it helped us understand why remembering this day actually matters.
