NH Touch Zone Day

Our Northcross Touch teams represented the school with pride and determination at the recent North Harbour Zone Day. Our top boys’ and girls’ teams displayed outstanding skill and teamwork throughout the tournament, battling their way to the finals against Murray’s Bay Intermediate and finishing as well-deserved runners-up. Our mixed team, made up mostly of enthusiastic Year 7 players, showed great grit and heart, gaining valuable experience and improving with every game. All teams can be incredibly proud of their efforts and sportsmanship on the day. A big thank you to our dedicated coaches, Mr Washer, Mrs Rameka, and Mr V for their support and guidance throughout the tournament.

NX Warriorz – Boys Team

This year’s Boys Touch team was a younger side than in the past with less touch experience and yet the boys soaked up everything thrown at them in a short space of time. In our two pool games we were a bit messy, but came away with two wins over Kristin & Glenfield. In the Semi Final against Belmont the boys produced what can only be described as a çlinic’ on how to play breathtaking team touch! It was beautiful to watch and everything just seemed to click with the boys winning comfortably 6-0.
In the final against Murray’s Bay it was toe to toe before MBIS snuck out to a 2 goal lead through a couple of defensive lapses and we went down 2-4. As their coach those defensive lapses were on me as we are yet to work on defence.
Totally proud of the boys and their efforts, coachability and desire to improve. Thanks boys, it’s been a privilege!

NX Girls Touch Team (2nd)

NX Ferns – Girls Team

Our Girls Touch team had an outstanding showing at this year’s Zone Day tournament. Although they began the day a little rough and took some time to settle into their rhythm, the girls showed true resilience. With each game, their timing, communication, and confidence improved — and by the end of pool play they were unstoppable, winning all their matches and securing a well-deserved spot in the semi-final, which they also won convincingly.
The final saw us face MBIS in what became a tightly contested battle. Both teams exchanged tries, heading into halftime locked in a draw. In the second half, a single break down the wing unfortunately slipped through, leaving us just one try short of the title.
Despite the narrow loss, the girls can be incredibly proud of their performance. They displayed heart, teamwork, and rapid growth throughout the day. With continued development and determination, our next goal is clear — to take out the Thursday after-school module.

Ka mau te wehi, girls!
