Kia ora Parents and Whānau,
As the school year draws to a close, we reflect on a vibrant and successful year where our students certainly rose to the challenge. In alignment with our school Mission Statement; Individual Growth through Challenge and Learning, we celebrate a year of personal achievements, resilience, and making the most of opportunities offered. While saying goodbye at the end of the year is difficult, we do so with immense pride, especially our year 8 students who have shown confidence in their learning and success throughout the year.
An acknowledgment and huge congratulations to our 2025 Future Problem Solving teams. Their dedication and critical thinking have culminated in another outstanding victory at the FPS New Zealand Nationals. This incredible achievement means they have earned the prestigious opportunity to travel to Indiana, America, to compete in the World Finals. Congratulations to Robert Chen, Gary Gao, Cynthia Gu, Ayla Gulliver, Emma He, EVELYN HU, Julia Khlebopros, Kevin LEI, Emma Smith, Chloe Tang, Sarah Wei and Will Xiao.
This success would not have been possible without the unwavering commitment and inspirational guidance of Mrs Glenis Martin. We extend our deepest gratitude to Glenis for dedicating her time and expertise to mentor our brilliant young problem-solvers. We wish the team all the very best as they prepare to represent Northcross and New Zealand on the global stage.
A massive, well-deserved cheer has to go out to Mrs Sylvia Watson, supported by a wonderful crew of Northcross staff, for the organisation last week’s Hakari Music and Arts afternoon. That was a seriously outstanding event, with a smooth flow of very talented young Northcross performers providing an eclectic genre of music. This day has certainly become a highlight on our cultural calendar.
Our recent Sports, Academic and Cultural Awards Evenings were wonderful occasions to acknowledge the exceptional efforts and achievements of our students across all fields. A huge congratulations to all the students who received awards for their outstanding academic results, cultural contributions, sporting prowess, and contributions to the school community. You have worked incredibly hard. It was certainly great to be able to celebrate your success with parents, staff and community over both evenings. Congratulations again, your recognition is well-deserved.
Alongside these evenings, we recognise that a Northcross Intermediate education is about more than just winning. I would like to extend an acknowledgment to every student at Northcross. Whether you stood on the stage or not, we celebrate your commitment, your daily efforts, your own personal growth, your resilience, and the positive contributions you make to our school every day. It certainly has been a pleasure working with you.
A major strength of Northcross is our hard working and dedicated staff who strive to offer the best education possible to our students. Thank you to all staff for their contributions throughout 2025. In saying that, we would like to acknowledge some long-serving and dedicated members who will be leaving us at the end of this year. Their commitment to Northcross students and the wider school community has been exceptional, and their presence will be deeply missed.
We extend our sincere thanks and best wishes to Juliet Hamblyn, our esteemed Associate Principal, for her years of dedicated service and invaluable leadership both of teaching teams and our curriculum. Juliet has won another leadership position working with the Ministry of Education where she will help lead the implementation of the new curriculum. Congratulations on this new position Juliet.
We also say a warm farewell and thank you to Annie Lloyd, who has contributed so much to the heart of Northcross Intermediate during her time, as Team Leader, Special Educational Needs Coordinator and more recently working with our English for Speakers of Other Languages Programme (ESOL) students. Thank you, Annie, for all you have done in supporting our students over the years.
An acknowledgement and thank you to Mrs Annette Thomas for her 22 years in encouraging, supporting and mentoring our ESOL students. Her commitment has made a lasting, positive impact on countless students and their families.
A huge thank you to Mrs. Fiona Landers who, up until this year, oversaw and ran the ESOL department, establishing a foundation of excellence and compassionate support for our students learning English.
We wish them both all the very best in their next endeavours.
To our departing Year 8 students, your time at Northcross Intermediate has prepared you for the challenges and excitement that lie ahead. We wish you every success as you transition to your respective secondary schools. Remember, make the most of every opportunity! We are incredibly proud of the young adults you have become.
To our returning Year 7 students, we look forward to welcoming you back as our school leaders next year. You have already shown great potential, and we are excited to see you embrace the responsibilities that come with being Year 8 students and role models for our incoming 2026 students
We wish all our families a safe and restful holiday season. Thank you for your continued support throughout the year.
