Principals Message

Kia ora Parents and Whanau

Welcome back to Term 4, it certainly seems to have come around very quickly. Our school production Taniwha is showcasing next week, this year’s cast has been hard at work preparing for this massive event. I would like to thank Mr Mark Jensen (Director) and Mrs Sylvia Watson (Musical Director) for all the extra hours getting the show ready for action!

Last week, Northcross held their annual Fun Run, our major school fundraiser! As a school the students raised an amazing $67,887! Thank you to all the families that helped contribute towards this by sharing your child’s fundraising page to families and friends. It was fantastic to see the team camaraderie, with so many of the students (and staff) decked out in their house colours. Congratulations to Archie Roberts, our top fundraiser, raising $1280, followed by McKynzie Pope ($1100) and third equal Olivia Seo and Sienna Hickling-Crane who raised $900 each. A portion of these funds will be tagged to the Sports Department and the remainder will help fund the canopy currently being installed over the netball courts.

Our Future Problem Solving Teams have done exceptionally well again this year with two Year 7 teams (Sofia Brandolino, Gabby Talbot, Soyul In, Samantha Ridgley; Ceci Ranum, Harini Nellipudi, Naomi Wanghan, Karry Gong) and three Year 8 teams (Yichen Liu, Chris Kumala, Nathan Blunden; Betty Shen, Matthew Fitness, Mitchell Baird, Olivia Rose; Ethan du Toit, Bianca Drever, Saya Lang, Tayva Flower)making it through to the National Finals.  We also have three students, Karry Gong, Leo McEvoy and Anthony Thompson, who have also qualified for the Nationals in Scenario Writing. These finals will be run over the next two weekends, we wish all the students well as they problem solve around the issue of mining.

This year’s National Youth Theatre’s production of Wendy, the Peter Pan Musical, being held this December at the Kiri Te Kanawa Theatre, Aotea Centre has a number of talented Northcross students acting in various roles; Kiersa Buist, Max Richardson, Katie Hook, Maddison Wright and Michelle Hendra. We look forward to seeing them on stage and wish them the best of luck for their performances – Break a Leg!

Nga mihi nui,

Wendy Naidu
