Principal’s Message

Kia ora Parents and Whanau,

As Term One draws to a close, we would like to take this opportunity to reflect on an incredibly successful term for our students.

I have been impressed by the dedication and positive attitude our students have shown throughout the term. They’ve embraced new challenges, tackled complex problems, and demonstrated a genuine appreciation of learning whether in the classroom or experiencing the year 8 Camp or year 7 Challenger series.

Both school camp and the Challenger programme provided an immersive and hands-on learning environment, challenging students to step outside their comfort zones while fostering teamwork, building resilience, and honing critical thinking skills. Thank you again to staff and parents for your ongoing support, ultimately enabling us to continue with the running of these very important student programmes.

Another learning highlight was the culmination of our school-wide “Follow the Leader” Project-Based Learning (PBL) initiative. This term-long project saw students delve into various leadership styles, from historical figures to current community leaders. Their creativity and critical thinking skills has definitely shone through as they have presented/discussed their findings in engaging and innovative ways.

This term also saw the nostalgic farewell of Mrs. Dianne Rose. For an incredible 30 years, Diane has been a dedicated member of the Northcross Intermediate whānau. Her tireless work overseeing the uniform shop, badges, resource room, and the meticulous organisation of our end-of-year prize giving cups, and trophies has ensured a smooth-running school environment for countless students and parents.
We are incredibly grateful for her service and dedication, and wish her all the very best in her well-deserved retirement.

I would like to acknowledge our Student Leaders who recently attended the prestigious leadership conference at Ilminster Intermediate in Gisborne. They represented Northcross Intermediate with pride, honing their leadership skills and forming valuable connections with peers from across the North Island. Their commitment to leadership bodes well for the future of our school community.

An acknowledgment and congratulations to previous Northcross students who have continued on to exhibit top leadership skills, they include,

  • Konstantinos Montes:  Head Boy at Whangaparoa College
  • Ngaawaimarino (Ngaawi) Simpkin:  Head Girl Rangitoto College
  • Cuba Rihari: Head Boy Rangitoto College
  • Michail Hobbs: Head Prefect Long Bay College
  • Emma Webster: Head Prefect Long Bay College
  • Jacob Karanga: Te Manakura Long Bay College
  • Paige Clark: Deputy Head Prefect Long Bay College
  • Luke Drake: Deputy Head Prefect Long Bay College

It is wonderful to see so many ex-Northcross students taking on leadership roles within our learning community (I hope I have not missed anyone out). As a school we are incredibly proud of our learners and the way they continue to, ‘light the path for success’.

Looking Ahead to Term 2

With Term 1 coming to an end, we wish you all a safe and relaxing break. Our last day of the term is tomorrow the 12th of April, returning on Monday, April 29th, when we will embark on another exciting term of learning and discovery.

Ngā mihi nui

Jonathon Tredray and the Northcross Intermediate Team
