Principal’s Message

Kia ora Parents and Whanau

I hope this Newsletter finds you well as we continue on into term 2. I am continually impressed by our students and their positive social conscience, wanting to help people in our community who are experiencing difficulty and needing help. An acknowledgment of Archie, Nathan, Nolan and Lawrence, who along with Mrs Potts, set up a ‘Jammie for June’ collection in our school office, collecting pyjamas for the Middlemore foundation. Thank you boys, I know the young patients at Middlemore Hospital will benefit greatly from your actions.

Project-Based Learning, Matuhoe Unit (Protest Unit): In previous correspondence I spoke about the launch of Project Based Learning, a dynamic and thought-provoking initiative designed to give students the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills through engaging projects set around challenges and problems they may face in the real world.

At Northcross, we believe in fostering a deep understanding of real-world issues and empowering our students to be agents of positive change. This unique unit aims to develop critical thinking, collaboration, and civic engagement skills by exploring the history, significance, and impact of protests throughout different periods and cultures.

During this unit, students have had the opportunity to engage in in-depth research, interactive discussions, and creative projects, all centered around protest movements. Students have been examining the social, political, and cultural aspects that have shaped these movements, understanding the catalysts behind them and the transformative power they possess. Through this unit, we aim to cultivate empathy, social awareness, and effective communication skills, equipping our students to become compassionate leaders of tomorrow. Our Teaching Teams will have contacted parents, advising them of the time they can visit school this Friday to view students learning.

New Cultural & Sports Dome: In our commitment to providing a holistic educational experience, we are delighted to announce our state-of-the-art Cultural & Sports Dome has now been completed. This remarkable facility will serve as a hub for artistic expression, cultural appreciation, and athletic prowess, promoting both individual growth and community engagement. The Cultural & Sports Dome will feature versatile spaces for various activities,  theatre performances, musical concerts, and inter-school cultural events. Additionally, it will house our many sports teams, allowing our students to explore a wide range of athletic pursuits while promoting physical fitness and teamwork no matter the weather conditions outside.

This multi-purpose dome will not only enrich our academic/sporting curriculum but also provide a vibrant platform for our students to showcase their talents, foster creativity, and embrace diverse cultural and sporting experiences. We believe that this investment will further strengthen our school community and reinforce our commitment to a well-rounded education.

Thank you for your continued trust and support in our pursuit of delivering authentic learning experiences to our students.
