June 17-19th was another huge maths week for Northcross. We held our own Northcross Year 7 and 8 competitions on Tuesday, with over 450 Northcross students competing in a fast-paced, problem solving competition in teams of 4. It was a fine effort by all the teams with a number reaching the 100 points under the 30 minute deadline and all teams perservering with some very tricky questions. Congratulations to Room 55 Team 1 for placing first for year 7’s and Room 54 Team 1 placing first for year 8’s.
On Wednesday we hosted sixty Year 6 students for the Junior Mathex competition – our top 5 teams were:
- First: Stanmore Bay
- Second and third: Pinehurst
- Fourth: Browns Bay
- Fifth: Pinehill
Thursday saw 49 Year 7 and 46 Year 8 teams compete in the North Harbour Mathex competition. We were thrilled when Northcross won both Year 7 and 8 competitions. Our winning Y8 team completed 20 questions in 13 minutes and 57 seconds – phenomenal! Our winning year 7 teams completed the questions in 23 minutes and 2 seconds.
- Year 8 First Place: Keddy Gong, Dylan Sun, Yanxing (Robert) Chen and Zachary Bailey
- Year 7 (tied for First Place): Ryan Deng, Chris Zhou, Shawn Park and Jamie He
- Year 7 (tied for First Place): Jayden Peng, Andrew Wan, Eric Liu and Hugo Jiao
All students involved had a fabulous time.
