A group of 20 students from Northcross Intermediate competed in the Inter School’s Checkmate Challenge . The NX students were split into two teams both of which dominated the competition, which made for an intense battle when pitted against each other. Northcross team A won the team competition, and Northcross team B came second.
Special Awards: Nathan Blunden was awarded the biggest gainer award, after gaining an 87 rating, more than any other player in the competition.
Our keen NX chess players not only played against Intermediate opposition from across Auckland but also senior players 1 – 5 years older – this made this competition very challenging. The senior players ultimately won the Intermediate division but Northcross dominated all other Intermediate schools taking part. The following players have been invited to participate in the Champions Trophy at the end of the year: Nathan Blunden, Logan Pillay, Eric Ni, Vicky Yu, George Xu, Edison Jiang, Ryan Li, Vincent Xu, Alan Li and Leo McEvoy.
