As we finish term two, it is certainly exciting to reflect back over the last 10 weeks and acknowledge our student’s achievements. These achievements are certainly personalized and appropriate to the learner at their own individualized level of readiness. They have ultimately taken on the opportunities offered leading them to experience success in all four aspects of life within the Northcross community; academic, cultural, sporting and social. They have certainly shown they are confident- positive in their own identity, motivated, reliant and resilient, connecting with their teachers, peers and the community. An acknowledgement also of our hardworking and dedicated staff who go well beyond generic job descriptions to ensure our students are receiving the best Middle School education. Thank you for all you have done throughout this term.
There are many examples of this involvement:
The open evening for Purirri Team Parents and Whanau last Wednesday, where students were able to show their authentic, life based experiences and understanding in showing how they would solve Auckland’s property woes by designing ‘Tiny Houses’ for their clients.
Our Kapa Haka group, continuing to be outstanding ambassadors for our school and recognising and being responsive to our cultural heritage by recently opening the Northern Bays School Arts Festival at the Bruce Mason Centre, performing at the Matariki festival at Murrays Bay Primary, performing at the the East Coast Bays Community Project Matariki Celebrations at Browns Bay, performing at the Mairangi Bay Arts Centre, Matariki celebration, Westfield Mall, Albany, Matariki event and performing for the elderly at the Fairview Rest home.
Mathew Hyde, a year 8 student with a deep social conscience, also an accomplished musician, who busked during weekends with his band, Rumpus, to raise money for a young Browns Bay girl receiving specialist cancer treatment in Spain.
Room 10, our Arts Academy, who entered into Show Quest, an Auckland wide Drama and Dance competition with their performance depicting how Alzheimer’s can affect families, an incredibly subtle and moving production that went on to win the competition.
Room 53, last week, represented Northcross at Sports Camp in Matamata. They were not only competing against other Intermediates from
Auckland and Waikato in challenges ranging from basketball through to bowls but also incredibly cold Waikato frosts! Other Intermediates take their top sports people from throughout their school, we are the only Intermediate to take a single class. The Sports Class was awarded second overall which certainly is a great result
I would like to acknowledge any of our students who made a personal goal, no matter how big or small, and then pushed through to achieve that goal. You are embracing our school motto, Individual Growth Through Challenge and Learning, congratulations and well done.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our parent/whanau community for your wonderful support throughout this term, your encouragement and ongoing support of our school is both acknowledged and appreciated, certainly supporting our endeavors to create a caring and support culture for our students.
