Kia ora Parents and Whanau ,
Welcome to our first Beacon/Ramaroa of 2025.
An acknowledgement and thank you to everyone who attended the recent Year 7 Parent Evenings and the Year 8 Finlay Park Camp Meeting. We trust you found the evenings both helpful and informative, your presence and engagement are invaluable in supporting both your child’s transition to Northcross and the expectations of our Year 8 programme.
As mentioned at our Year 7 evening, we understand that transitioning to Intermediate School can bring about many questions. It’s important to remember that Intermediate is a unique phase, distinct from both primary and secondary school. We are a bridge, designed to nurture independence, foster critical thinking and prepare students for the challenges and opportunities of not only secondary school but their future pathways.
Year 8 Camp: A Vital Experience at Finlay Park
The Year 8 camp at Finlay Park is a cornerstone of our Year 8 program. It’s more than just a fun getaway; it’s an opportunity for our students to:
Build Resilience: Facing challenges in a supportive environment fosters self-confidence and problem-solving skills.
- Strengthen Bonds: Shared experiences create lasting friendships and a sense of community.
- Develop Independence: Stepping outside their comfort zones promotes personal growth and self-reliance.
- Learn valuable life skills: Teamwork, and leadership skills are all reinforced during camp.
An acknowledgement and huge thank you to Deputy Principal, Christina England for the planning and overseeing of our camp programme.
We firmly believe that the experiences gained at Finlay Park are instrumental in preparing our students for the next stage of their education.
Our Year 7 Challenger Series is now underway it is very much about; Fostering Connections. The Challenger Series is designed to both challenge and support our students as they navigate their first year of Intermediate.
These activities:
Promote Teamwork: Students learn to collaborate and support each other in achieving common goals.
- Build Friendships: Shared experiences create opportunities for students to connect with their peers.
- Strengthen Teacher-Student Bonds: Engaging in activities outside the classroom helps students build positive relationships with their teachers.
- Build Confidence: Overcoming challenges builds confidence. Thank you for being a part of the Northcross Intermediate community.
Steve Mueller, our (new to Northcross) Deputy Principal has taken on the organisation of the Challenger Series, thank you Steve for your input, ensuring the continued success of this valuable programme.
You will have heard out students speaking of recent Respect Assemblies. RESPECT@NX is our school-wide approach to fostering a positive and inclusive culture, built on the Positive Behaviour for Learning (PB4L) framework. This initiative ensures all students feel safe, respected, and empowered to succeed. By embedding PB4L principles across Northcross Intermediate, we are reinforcing clear expectations, using positive reinforcement, and making data-informed decisions to support student growth. We aim to create a safe and supportive environment where our school values are at the heart of everything we do.
We are happy announce the completion of the recent upgrade and resurfacing of our Astro Tiger Turf courts! This significant improvement will greatly benefit our students and the entire school community. The newly resurfaced courts offer enhanced safety by providing improved grip and cushioning thereby reducing the risk of slips and falls and ensuring a safer environment for all activities.
The upgraded surface offers a more consistent and predictable playing experience, enhancing performance in sports and PE classes.
Our upgraded courts will also allow for a wider range of activities and sports, providing more opportunities for students to engage in physical activity and to develop their skills. A huge thank you to David Oakley and our Board of Trustees for their vision in ensuring our school is fully resourced and has the best facilities for our students.
In finishing, we would like to warmly welcome a number of new staff to Northcross:
